I left, but I shall return, and to the hills I go!

My first week at my new job, also known as Agrarian Adventure Number Two, has taken off well.  I will certainly be proficient and maybe close to aficionado level when I move on from the tree farm.

Tooley's Trees is set along the High Road to Taos.  It overlooks the Española Valley where the Rio Grande, Rio Chama, and Rio Santa Cruz merge together (I haven't ventured too far from the valleys).  It is about 8,000 ft above sea level, so I've migrated up in elevation a bit from the San Luis Valley.

The work is very physical.  We bagged almost 200 trees this week. They use bags instead of pots because these root-bags have millions of tiny holes in them that prevent the root from turning inside the bag, unlike plastic pots.  When a root encounters air it stops growing.

I am learning how to sell trees to customers too.  There is so much to know about each variety that it is daunting to talk with customers, but I'm catching on.

Well I'm spending my day off in Santa Fe and of course it is raining for once.

I do miss the ranch, but I'll be sure to visit since I'm not too far away.

Here are a few photos from the week:

I do not have internet where I live so my post will be sporadic, but ideally once a week.  So check back every now and then.  I'll try to come up with some creative post for you all.
