This is the third afternoon rain has come from the heavens. The South facing window in front of me is streaked with droplets of H2O. It is exciting to have some thunderheads come our way. We found out recently that this corner of the Valley is technically in severe drought, while the whole Valley is considered to be at a moderate drought level. My clothes are still on the clothesline and are only more damp now. But hey, I won't complain.
Our weeks are rolling by. Our calender fills and changes rapidly. I really cannot believe it is almost July and my fifth month is beginning on Sunday. I continue to aspire to read more and create some balance in between the cows needs, but summer is summer. I have of late, been driving our 3/4 ton truck around with a stock trailer attached. I feel pretty big and woMANly.
A ton of things have happened recently, but much of my day-to-day is a blur or routine and no longer detectable by my "newness" radar. I did have a chance to travel to the James Ranch near Durango. I met the other Quivira apprentice and we had a grand time getting to know each other. The apprenticeship is apart of the artisan cheese making operation. I was able to work in the cheese room and learned about some cheeses. I also had a chance to assist with morning milkings. They use machines which was new to me. I hand milked at school. A few days later, the James's apprentice joined me at my operation and got a taste of my everyday...fairly different.
Well, I have to go move some cows. The rain has ended, maybe, I'll be able to get my clothes off the line before the next storm.
