I spent my Sunday rendering beef tallow. It was a very easy process, but it took time! While the tallow was rendering in the crock-pot I went on a hike in the Rio Grand National Forest and when I came back I had hot tallow!
I do not have any photos from my hike. I hiked about 4.5 miles with our friend Kelly. We ran into some cows in the forest and herded them a little bit. We didn't want to herd them up the trail, but that was about our only way back to where we started. We ended up crossing the creek to stop pushing them up the trail.
For the past two days I have been participating in an advance grazing management on public lands course. The second day was a field day and we ventured out onto some forest land that was being grazed this season. It was a beautiful and COOL day. We discussed grazing strategies, monitoring, and recovery periods.
I have been thinking through some questions I have and will post some of my thoughts soon.
