Day 365

It has come!

A year ago today I found myself 1700 miles West of anything I knew. This year has been magical and hard in many ways, but most of all I have made it through the long hot/cold days without too many scratches and when things looked grim I found the energy to push through--knowing each day is a new one.

Today has been a long one and was filled with many reminders of how far I've come. George and I headed south to disassemble our portable corrals and truck them to a new field. Take-down took about 2 hours. We carted the materials to where the calves and yearlings are now grazing. We spent some time improving the watering hole at the new field because it seemed some calves aren't getting enough water. We then spent another two hours building the corral. At this point it was almost three in the afternoon and we still needed to look over the calves and pull some of the "sick" calves out. In a matter of eight days a handful of our calves have shrunk in size. It is mystifying why this is happening because they are not showing signs of any obvious illness. We have concluded it has been their water source, but we brought 8 calves home today to watch them more closely.

Not bad for the final day of my official apprenticeship. It's been an amazing opportunity and has kept my agrarian flame burning and in many ways fueled it up for my future.
