Day off = finding source for free internet and new scenery to gaze at...
Spending my day off in a nice cafe. The cafe is at the foot of the Sangre mountains, and the aspens and cottonwoods are budding out.
News from the ranch:
We're almost done with calving season (13 cows to go)
A major rain storm came through the ranch and dumped about 1/2-1 inches. Things are greening up. (This region only receives ~7 inches a year)
We hope we have slowed the scours epidemic that has been raging for two and a half weeks.
We bought a new bull. (16 months old)
I learned how to skin a calf. We had a calf die and were able to place the calf's skin on Atticus. He now has a mother! He hasn't quite taken to having a mother, but we hope it grows on him.
Atticus with his new coat on. After four days we took off his coat. His new mom still claims him!
Just a cute calf.
Had a chance to venture across the Sangres and see some unique geological features, ancient lava flow. We took a detour while picking up our new bull.
Tomorrow will mark the start of my third month at the ranch and I cannot believe that much time has passed.
