Call me the Dishwasher

Living with others, especially those you do not really know can present some challenges to how one can help around the dinner table.
I have found my niche…the Dishwasher. It is typically an easy task, but can be time consuming. This position requires attention to detail, an affinity for hot water, and enough energy to get through a stack of dishes after a long day. I meet the minimum requirements. A master dishwasher is one who has knowledge of where dishes go after drying, can minimize the use of water while cleaning and rinsing, and keep their clothes dry during washing. I’m working on these additional qualifications.

Today was long and did not go the way we thought it would. Foolish us, for thinking we could plan.

George and I set out for chores this morning and quickly saw a cow that was off by herself. She happened to be in labor, which was obvious from far away. Her tail was sticking straight out from her. The first-calf heifer was in labor about a month early. It did not look very good. The water bag had burst and the color was dark. We walked her to the corral and prepared to pull the calf. The calf was breeched with its butt first. After about an hour of watching George pull and push the calf around inside the mom, we were able to pull the calf out. The calf was dead, which we had already suspected/expected. We believe the calf turned inside its mom and snapped its umbilical cord at the same time and sent the momma into labor. After this experience, we all took a break for the afternoon. After lunch, we spent about three hours working on corral improvements. The weather today was very nice. The sky was clear and only a slight wind from the west, perfect weather for working outside.

No pictures today…
